New to Crew?

Getting information: The who, what and where

The beginning of the crew season is full of information, foreign terms and people. But, don’t worry… you and your rower will soon be well versed in all things crew!

Calendar: Nov. 9th is the registration meeting. Feb. 7th is the general membership meeting. These key dates, as well as many others, can be found by visiting the calendar of events. Note that clicking on the agenda tab at the top of the Google calendar will produce a printer friendly list of events.

Website: Visit the website frequently. Important updates will appear on the Home page. Take a tour of the Tabs listed on the left. The Handbook is a particularly good source of information.

Communication modes: In addition to the formal meetings, the coaches, captains and boosters may communicate to the rowers and the LB crew community using email, text messaging and Face book. There is a link to Face book on the home page that does not require an account to view.

A Quick go to list

Here is a quick “Go To” list of contacts for most commonly asked questions:

All things related to rowing, conditioning and practice and coaching: Send an email to coaches@bruincrew.com

Registration: Send an email to registration@bruincrew.com

Uniforms/foul weather wear: Send an email to uniforms@bruincrew.com

All other questions, concerns or talents you want to share: Email board@bruincrew.com , we will get you connected!

In the beginning...

Signing Up: The nuts and bolts of joining the crew community

There is a short list of items to complete to be fully compliant and ready to row.

  • Register on-line. Click here for more information.

  • Print, read, sign, and drop the required forms off in the crew box in the student activities office. A list of required forms can be found here.

  • Make sure that the physical form is completely filled out including having been signed by a health care provider, your insurance information and immunizations.

  • Complete the FCPS concussion education program. This must be completed by both the student and one parent. Click here to get to the FCPS Concussion Education Program.

  • Order a uniform. Rowers will be sized at the initial registration meeting on Nov. 9th. They will bring home a form with sizing and ordering information. It is the parents/rowers responsibility to order the uniform. Click here for ordering information.

  • Participate in the Letter writing campaign. Click here for more information on fundraising efforts. For questions specific to the letter writing campaign, send an email to letterwriting@bruincrew.com.

  • Have at least one family member sign up for a volunteer job after the Feb. 7th meeting. Become familiar and establish an account on Signup genius. Click here for more information on volunteer signup.

Carpooling: Getting to the water

Katie Valette is the Carpool Assistant for the 2012 Season to Bull Run Marina. We are here to help those who are looking to fill openings in their carpools and those who are looking to establish a carpool themselves. Find her at carpool@bruincrew.com

****We do not match rowers to carpools-this is done by the parents**** In January you may send an email stating your need for carpool members. We will respond to let you know who has openings in their carpool in your area or who else is looking to establish a carpool. You will then contact those parents to discuss your needs.

The information you provide in your email should include:

  • Rower's Name/Gender

  • Rower's Grade
  • Rower's address
  • Parent's contact information (email AND phone)

To make your carpooling needs to Bull Run Marina as simple as possible, we need you and your rowers to start thinking about carpool options as Winter Conditioning begins. Our rowers quickly become a close-knit group of kids and it usually starts with your carpools!
